DulcoLax^® Pico Drops

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this package leaflet or as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual single dose for adults is:
10 to 18 drops (equivalent to 5 to 10 mg sodium picosulfate).

Children from 4 years of age take a single dose of 5 to 9 drops (equivalent to 2.5 to 5 mg sodium picosulfate).

It is recommended to start with the lowest dosage. The dose can be adjusted up to the maximum recommended dose if needed to achieve regular bowel movements.
The maximum daily dose of 18 drops (for adults) or 9 drops (for children from 4 years) should not be exceeded.

DulcoLax^® Pico drops are best taken in the evening.
They can be taken with or without liquid.
The laxative effect usually occurs after 10 to 12 hours.

Please note the time until the effect begins and do not try to force a bowel movement by straining.

Hold the bottle vertically with the dropper facing downward when dispensing.
Do not shake!
If the drops do not start immediately, gently tap the bottom of the bottle.

Laxative drops should not be taken continuously on a daily basis or over long periods without prior medical clarification.

Do not take DulcoLax^® Pico drops if you:

• are allergic to sodium picosulfate, related substances from the triarylmethane group, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine;
• have an intestinal obstruction or narrowing with impaired passage;
• suffer from severe abdominal pain with or without fever (e.g., appendicitis), possibly with nausea and vomiting;
• have acute inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract;
• are severely dehydrated;
• have a rare hereditary fructose intolerance (DulcoLax^® Pico drops contain sorbitol).

Consult your doctor before use if:

• your symptoms appeared suddenly, persist, or are accompanied by blood in the stool or fever;
• you have kidney problems or conditions affecting your fluid and electrolyte balance;
• you are unsure whether your symptoms are due to constipation or another condition.

Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals, or those who suspect they may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, should consult their doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.

There are no meaningful clinical studies on the use of this medicine during pregnancy. Use during pregnancy should be avoided if possible.

It has been shown that neither the active ingredient nor its breakdown products pass into breast milk. Therefore, DulcoLax^® Pico drops can be used during breastfeeding².

Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used, or plan to take/use any other medicines.

When taken together with antibiotics (medicines for bacterial infections), the laxative effect of the drops may be reduced.

There are different groups of products that support bowel activity. They vary—sometimes significantly—in how they stimulate the bowel.

In general: Laxatives, when used as directed, can be a well-tolerated way to get the bowel moving again and to achieve easy and regular bowel movements. “Used as directed” means choosing a dosage that results in a soft, well-formed stool.

Stimulant laxatives
Stimulant laxatives, including the DulcoLax^® active ingredients bisacodyl and sodium picosulfate, have a dual mode of action. On the one hand, they increase the fluid content in the bowel, improving stool consistency. On the other hand, they stimulate the bowel’s natural motility. This combination activates bowel activity, facilitates defecation, and has been shown in clinical studies to be very effective and safe. This helps get digestion moving.

Laxative suppositories
Medical suppositories are a reliable and very fast-acting form of stimulant laxatives. They contain bisacodyl or glycerin and are inserted directly into the rectum. There, they promote bowel movements by increasing the fluid content of the stool and stimulating bowel activity. This usually results in a bowel movement within minutes.

Osmotic / stool-softening laxatives

Osmotic laxatives or stool softeners, such as DulcoSoft^® products (macrogol), support the body during bowel movements by reducing fluid absorption in the colon. These preparations contain substances (e.g., macrogol) that bind water in the colon. This increases the fluid content of the stool. They soften the stool in the bowel, making defecation easier and more comfortable. When used as directed, these laxatives are a safe and gentle method to stimulate the bowel and restore regular bowel movements.

Fiber supplements

Additional fiber increases stool volume. The stool becomes softer and easier to pass. In general, they are safe but may increase bloating, a feeling of fullness, and abdominal discomfort, and may interfere with the absorption of other medications.

Available data does not indicate a risk of habituation or dependence.
Some people who suffer from constipation symptoms need to take laxatives continuously in order to maintain comfortable bowel movements.
People with chronic constipation are unable to have regular bowel movements without discomfort, such as severe straining. However, this ongoing use is not the result of previous laxative use. Rather, it is their condition that makes continuous use necessary, and this should not be misunderstood as addiction.

Laxatives do not have addictive potential³ ⁴.

After first opening the bottle, DulcoLax^® Pico drops remain usable for 12 months.
